The Muffs leave the garage behind and retrogress to caves for this self-titled release. Shattuck tries almost too hard to sound grungy and amateurish, then blows her cover with some cool melodies on "Everywhere I Go." There's a certain charm to the group's 3-chord riffing and primitive rhythms (provided by the male half of the quartet) that seems to have most appeal when driving a vehicle beyond the posted speed limit on a hot, sunny day. -AMG
This is SUCH a great album. I was fortunate enough to se them play live a few times back in the day. As you can imagine, they were unbelievable. Thanks for posting this.
Fantastic album! I made a trip to the record store the day this was released just to get it, as I was a major fan of the singles they'd released prior to this debut, and it remains one of my all-time favorite albums. Just the other week I made a copy of it for a friend who's never heard it, and it's great to see you posting it here and turning on others to the mighty Muffs!
The only Muffs album I ever owned was a CD of Hamburger, but I've listened to that bad boy a hundred times!
When I look at my record collection, I don't have much female-vocal rock music. But the Muffs are there, standing shoulder to shoulder with any of the boys.
