The Action Figures' debut posits the group as worthy inheritors of the power-pop tradition -- their sound is darker and more spare than most bands in the genre, resulting in a more immediately distinctive identity than usual, and while not all of their songs are memorable, Big Wonderful certainly holds promise for the future.
