Fellow Power Popper Needs Help

Can any one help with the name and artist of this song?

Here are the lyrics

you left on a later train
i saw you
i called your name
there's a lot of the time ahead
and a whole new life
we had such good times together
we fought forever
they all thought we were brothers
we didn't care

and we live in different ways
just too many loose absent friends

how i want you home again
won't you ride back home
how i want you home again

it's funny how when you look back
it's always the road so sad
it's funny how we can't see that
it's human right
maybe we're scared to turn back
to live on, and move on
maybe we even have some right
to cover up tracks

and we live in different ways
just too many loose absent friends

how i want you home again
won't you ride back home
how i want you home again

Answer!! Thanks to reader Powerpako

Sorry, not yet, but it does sound familiar. Any chance of getting a better quality sample? This one has some wicked phase (and volume)shifting going on that make it almost unlistenable. The chorus in particular is all distorted...

I'm not familiar with this one. It is a poor quality recording but it didn't ring any bells. I tried searching the lyrics but then I'm sure you did the same. I'll send it to some friends see if they heard it.

Listening to the track, without reading-along with lyrics, I heard, "you left on a LATE NIGHT train" for the first line.

The search engines didn't turn up a match on that line, either.

Thanks WetSpot, it´s a good beginning.

I'm trying to work on this to help you and it's driving me crazy. That voice is so familiar! All I can offer right now is my take on the lyrics, which differ from yours:

you left on the late-night train
i saw you
i called your name
jealous of all the time ahead
in your new life
we had such good times together
we fought forever
they all thought we were brothers
we didn't care

now we live in different ways
just two memories, absent friends

how i want you home again
want you right back home
how i want you home again

it's funny how when you look back
it's always the rosy side
it's funny how we can't see that
it's human pride
maybe we're scared to turn back
to rewind (?), and move on
maybe we even have some right (this line does not soudn like this to me, but I can't make out anything better)
to cover our tracks

and we live in different ways
just two memories, absent friends

how i want you home again
want you right back home
how i want you home again

Anyhow, I've tried several different searches. I love hunts like this, so I'll do my best!

Paul Heaton ?

It definitely sounds like Housemartins-era Heaton. THAT's who I kept thinking of but couldn't place it.

Powerpako said...

This is the early band of Heaton. The sound of guitar is similar, mod punk style.

It is NOT Paul Heaton.
This song sounds similar to SQUEEZE, to the song "Is that love?"
I think they are british between 80 and 85...
